Buccaneers close regular season with doubleheader sweep of Alvin

Holland’s walk-off homer caps dramatic opener before Blinn cruises to run-rule victory in finale ahead of Region 14 Tournament

The Blinn College softball team wrapped up its regular season with a blend of late-game drama and dominant play.

The Buccaneers got a three-run walk-off home run from Londyn Holland in game one before rolling to a 9-1, six-inning victory in the finale to complete a Region 14 South doubleheader sweep of Alvin Community College on Wednesday in Brenham, Texas.

The pair of victories pushed Blinn to 31-17 overall and 15-9 in the South. The Bucs also reached the 30-win mark for the first time since 2024.

"It was good to get going again right before we head into the postseason, because momentum is important at this point in the season," Blinn head coach Rick Church said. "Hopefully this is the start of a really nice stretch for us."

In game one, the Bucs built an early 2-0 lead on an RBI single from sophomore infielder Annie Beckendorf in the first inning and a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the second.

The Dolphins answered with four runs in the top of the third inning.

After sophomore first baseman Daniela Lopez drove in a run on a groundout in the bottom half of the frame, Alvin added another run in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.

It remained a two-run game until the seventh.

Freshman infielder Brianna Moreno led off the frame with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. Freshman outfielder Lexis Moss followed with an RBI double to plate Moreno, and after a Beckendorf single, a two-out Alvin error allowed the tying run to score.

Holland, a freshman infielder, then blasted her seventh home run of the season over the wall in center field to end the game.

Holland has been one of Blinn's hottest hitters in recent weeks. After entering April with a .200 batting average, she has since gone 25 for 58 (.431) to raise her average to .324.

Blinn's comeback was aided by a strong relief outing from pitcher Madisyn Bracknell (10-6). The sophomore earned the first of her two wins on the day with two innings of one-hit ball. She struck out one batter.

"Madisyn did a great job of coming in and shutting Alvin down," Church said. "She had a couple of rough outings, but this was her returning to the true form we all know she's capable of."

Sophomore pitcher Brynn Gallamore worked five innings and settled for a no-decision. She allowed five earned runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.

The finale featured far less drama, but the same result for the Bucs.

Blinn raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added two runs apiece in the third, fifth, and sixth innings to invoke the run rule.

In the sixth, Moss singled in a run and later scored on a wild pitch to end the contest.

The Bucs piled up 15 hits in the win.

Moss, Lopez, and freshman outfielder Skylar Flanagan collected three hits apiece. Moss hit her team-leading 12th home run – a solo shot in the third inning – and added a double, while Lopez doubled twice. Moss and Lopez also drove in three runs each.

Moreno and sophomore catcher/third baseman Cadence Wiese had two hits apiece, while Wiese and Flanagan each drove in a run.

Bracknell continued her dominance from the opener with a six-inning complete game – her 10th of the season. She allowed an unearned run on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

"Alvin had eight innings to adjust to Madisyn, and they couldn't figure her out today," Church said. "Give credit to Madisyn because her off-speed pitches were working and she kept Alvin off balance."

The Bucs now turn their attention to the Region 14 Tournament, where they will begin play as the No. 2 seed out of the South. Blinn will face Navarro College – the third seed out of the North – in the opening round at  noon on Wednesday, May 13, at San Jacinto College-South in Houston.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
