Scott Schumacher is in his 15th year as Blinn College's athletic director.
Schumacher oversaw another historic year for Blinn athletics in 2025-26.
In total, eight teams and two individuals earned trips to national championships, including baseball, volleyball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's cross country, the cheer and dance teams, and a pair of cross country runners who qualified for the NJCAA Division I Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Blinn baseball team reached the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series for a program-record fourth consecutive season and finished as the national runner-up. The men's soccer team made program history by qualifying for its first-ever NJCAA Men's Soccer Championship tournament. The volleyball team qualified for the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship tournament for the sixth consecutive season, while the men's and women's cross country teams earned berths in the NJCAA Division I Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships for a second straight year. Freshmen Matthew Binkley and Ryan Fernandez also qualified for the NJCAA Division I Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Meanwhile, the men's and women's golf teams advanced to the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship and NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship. The women's team placed seventh nationally, with freshman Ava Murcer earning first-team NJCAA All-America honors and sophomore Daniah Syed collecting second-team NJCAA All-America recognition.
In addition, the volleyball, women's soccer, men's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, men's and women's cross country, baseball, and softball teams all qualified for Region XIV tournaments. Blinn baseball hosted the Region XIV South Regional and Region XIV Super Regional for a fourth consecutive year and captured its fourth straight Region XIV South and Mid-South District championships. The women's golf team also won the Region XIV Championship.
Other highlights from 2025-26 included sophomore outside hitter Olivia Stringer earning first-team NJCAA All-America honors in volleyball, while sophomore men's soccer standout Sam Sebagabo became the program's first first-team NJCAA All-American. Sophomores Dylan Thompson and Hudson Melaerts, along with freshman Zachary Tuxhorn, earned second-team NJCAA All-America honors for baseball, while freshman Skylar Flanagan was named a second-team NJCAA All-American in softball.
Under Schumacher's leadership, 500 student-athletes were named to the fall and spring athletic director's honor roll. Additionally, seven student-athletes — Olivia Singleton (dance), Gage Cole (esports), Lillie Webster (women's golf), Nawfal Hadj-Hamou and Alfredo Morales-Mendez (men's soccer), Annie Beckendorf (softball), and Juliana Jeansonne (women's cross country) — shared the Blinn Atkinson Cup Award after maintaining a 4.0 grade point average throughout their two years at Blinn.
Blinn has won 53 national championships since 1987, including 25 under Schumacher's leadership.
Schumacher also serves as the Buccaneers' head men's basketball coach. In 36 seasons as a junior college head coach, he has compiled a career record of 693-405. He ranks 10th among active NJCAA men's basketball coaches in career victories and was inducted into the NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in February 2023. In 2022, Schumacher was inducted into the Kilgore College Hall of Fame, where he served as head men's basketball coach from 1995-2008. During his tenure, three players and the 1997-98 Rangers team were also inducted into the hall of fame.
Overall, Schumacher is in his 40th year of coaching collegiate basketball and his 18th year as an NJCAA athletic director.
