Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association donates $30,000 to Blinn athletics

The Association has donated $400,000 since 2017

The Blinn College Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association recently gifted $30,000 to Blinn's 14 athletic programs during an ice cream social held Wednesday on the Blinn-Brenham Campus.

The Association presented a check to Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District, and Blinn Athletic Director Scott Schumacher

"We cannot thank the members of the Alumni Lettermen enough for their donations each year," Schumacher said. "It is impossible to put into words what those funds mean to our programs, but we are grateful for their generosity and their commitment to what we do."

The donation was made possible by proceeds raised during the Association's annual Clay Shootout in April. Blinn coaches and student-athletes from all 14 programs volunteered during the all-day event.

"All of our teams at Blinn College come out and support the Association during what proves to be one of our biggest events every year," Association President Kevin Bosse said. "This is just one way we can repay their hard work every year."

Including Wednesday's gift, the Association has endowed Blinn athletics with $400,000 since 2017. That total includes proceeds from the Clay Shootout as well as other fundraisers each year.

Bosse spoke to hundreds of Blinn student-athletes and their coaches during Wednesday's event. He said this year's gift is yet another statement of the Association's commitment to the College and its athletic programs.

"Year after year, the Association loves making this donation and hosting this event for our student-athletes," Bosse said. "All you have to do is pick up a press clipping and you can see all of the success our programs are enjoying every year, so to have even a small hand in that is an honor."

The Alumni Lettermen Association is led by Bosse, Vice President Charlie Kelm, Secretary and Blinn assistant softball coach Jami Ingram, and Treasurer Gary Weiss.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
