Buccaneers take opener before Seahawks rally for extra-inning win in finale

The 22nd-ranked Blinn College softball team split a Region 14 South doubleheader with Lamar State College-Port Arthur on Sunday.

The Buccaneers won the opener 6-5 before the Seahawks rallied for a 10-9, nine-inning victory in the finale. Blinn moved to 29-17 overall and 13-9 in South play.

Blinn built a comfortable lead in game one before fending off Lamar State-Port Arthur in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

Freshman outfielder Skylar Flanagan led off the game with a single and later scored on an error. Sophomore catcher/third baseman Cadence Wiese followed with an RBI double to make it 2-0.

In the fourth inning, sophomore first baseman Daniela Lopez drove in a run on a groundout, and Flanagan added an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.

Wiese scored on an error in the fifth and added an RBI single in the sixth to push the advantage to 6-0.

The Seahawks answered with a run in the sixth and threatened with four more in the seventh. With runners on second and third and two outs, freshman pitcher Jamison Wlos recorded a game-ending strikeout to preserve the win.

The Buccaneers totaled 12 hits, led by Flanagan's 4-for-4 performance. Wiese added three hits and two RBIs, while sophomore infielder Annie Beckendorf doubled.

Sophomore starting pitcher Brynn Gallamore (16-8) earned the victory after allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts across 6 1/3 innings.

In the finale, Blinn again carried a late lead, but Lamar State-Port Arthur completed a comeback to earn the split.

After the game moved into extra innings, the Buccaneers took a 9-8 lead on freshman infielder Londyn Holland's solo home run to left field – her sixth of the season.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Seahawks tied the game on a run-scoring double play before delivering the walk-off win with a two-out double.

Gallamore was the pitcher of record after tossing 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. Sophomore starter Madisyn Bracknell received a no-decision after giving up eight runs (five earned) on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

Blinn produced 14 hits in the finale, including six for extra bases. Wiese went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, including a double and a two-run home run in the sixth inning, her 11th of the year.

Freshman outfielder Lexis Moss also hit her 11th home run as part of a two-hit, three-RBI performance. Holland finished with three hits, freshman designated hitter Presli Moebes added two hits (including a double), and Flanagan had two singles. Lopez contributed a hit and two RBIs.

Up next, Blinn concludes its regular season with a home doubleheader against South opponent Alvin Community College at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.
