No. 8 Trinity Valley sweeps doubleheader from No. 19 Blinn

The Buccaneers resume Region 14 South play against Lamar State-Port Arthur on April 8

A tough day at the plate for No. 19 Blinn College softball led to a doubleheader sweep at the hands of No. 8 Trinity Valley Community College on Wednesday at Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.

The Cardinals defeated the Buccaneers 4-1 and 7-2.

"The main thing was that we didn't show up to compete today, and against a team like Trinity Valley, you have to," Blinn head coach Rick Church said. "We weren't inspired to play at a higher level today."

The Bucs dropped to 20-12 overall.

In the opener, Trinity Valley tallied one run in the top of the first inning and two in the fourth before Blinn got on the board in the sixth.

Freshman utility player Lexis Moss hit an RBI single for the Bucs to make it 3-1.

The Cardinals closed the scoring with a run in the seventh.

Blinn finished with six hits.

Sophomore pitcher Brynn Gallamore (11-6) took the loss despite seven strong innings. She allowed four unearned runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Game two was a tight affair through four innings before Trinity Valley broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fifth. The Cardinals tacked on two in the sixth and one in the seventh while the Bucs got one back in the home half of the sixth.

Sophomore first baseman Daniela Lopez had two of Blinn's eight hits and drove in both runs. Sophomore catcher Madysen Taylor also had two hits.

Sophomore pitcher Madisyn Bracknell (6-3) was the pitcher of record for the Bucs after working five innings of four-run ball. She gave up three earned runs on four hits with two walks and one punchout.

Freshman Jamison Wlos and sophomore Kacie Dudensing each worked one inning of relief.

Blinn looks to bounce back when it hosts Lamar State College-Port Arthur for a Region 14 South doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at Hohlt Park.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
