Blinn Call of Duty sweeps Central to cap perfect regular season

The Buccaneers will face Alvin in the Central Super Regional on April 14

The Blinn College esports program completed a perfect regular season Wednesday with an NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) sweep of Central Community College.

The Buccaneers improved to 7-0 behind the team of Jaden Navarro, Aariz Ali, Daniel Gonzalez, and Pablo Tarazaga.

Wednesday's matchup pitted the four Bucs against the Raiders, with the teams attempting to collect three wins across three modes of play in the first-person-shooter game:
  • Hardpoint: Teams secure rotating capture points, earning points for control. A team wins by reaching 250 points first.
  • Search and Destroy: Teams alternate attacking and defending, with the goal to plant or defuse an objective. The first team to win six rounds claims victory.
  • Overload: Teams placed on separate areas on a map compete to capture an Overload Device and transport it to one of two detonation zones on the opposing team's area. The match ends when either team scores eight points.
Blinn delivered a dominant performance across all three modes to secure the sweep.

On Hardpoint (Colossus), Navarro led the charge while Gonzalez controlled crucial hill time as the Buccaneers cruised to a 250-67 victory.

In Search and Destroy (Den), Navarro and Ali teamed up to dictate the pace of play and build a commanding lead. Navarro punctuated the round with a decisive play, eliminating all four Central players to seal a 6-1 win.

Blinn completed the sweep in Overload (Den), using strong teamwork and positioning to take control early. After building a first-half lead, the Buccaneers pulled away in the second half behind a standout performance from Ali to earn a 7-2 victory.

"We've had this match circled as Central is historically our biggest rival for Call of Duty, and the team really rose to the occasion," Blinn assistant coach and Call of Duty coach Ryan Lucich said. "Jaden set the tone early, Daniel gave us big moments in Hardpoint, and Aariz stepped up in a major way in Overload. It was also great to see Pablo make an impact in his first match with this group."

With the regular season complete, Blinn now turns its attention to the postseason. The Buccaneers will enter the NJCAAe Central Super Regional as the No. 1 seed and face Alvin Community College in a four-team bracket at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14.
