Blinn Valorant falls to Lawrence Tech

The Buccaneers will face Manchester in a NACE Valorant match on Feb. 18

The Blinn College esports Valorant team dropped a best-of-three set to Lawrence Technological University on Wednesday.

Lawrence Tech won the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) series 2-1.

Blinn is now 0-2 in NACE play.

Competing for the Buccaneers was Ilies Dolliazal, Milad Khorsandi, Tyler Hartman, Samuel Long, and Brian Yang.

Valorant is a tactical, team-based, first-person shooter set in a near-future world. Teams of five players choose unique agents with distinct abilities, combining shooting skills with strategic use of each agent's toolkit. Teams alternate between attacking and defending. Attackers aim to plant a spike at one of the designated sites, while defenders try to prevent this or defuse the spike if planted. The first team to win 13 rounds claims victory. If both teams reach a tie at 12-12, overtime is triggered, and the match continues until one team wins by two rounds, with teams alternating between attacking and defending in each overtime round.

Lawrence Tech won the opening round 13-9 before Blinn bounced back on map two for a 13-11 triumph. Lawrence Tech then claimed the series with a 13-8 victory on map three.

"We came into this match knowing Lawrence Tech was a mechanically strong team that thrives on momentum and fast mid-round adjustments," Bucs assistant coach and Valorant coach Patrick Daley said. "Our focus going in was keeping communication clear and not letting early rounds spiral if we lost a few in a row. The series ended up being one of our most competitive matches of the season so far, with every map feeling winnable and several rounds coming down to the final duel again. Overall, the series showed clear growth in communication and composure."

Next up for Blinn Valorant is a NACE bout against Manchester University at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
