No. 17 Blinn off to program's best start following Region 14 shutout of Paris

The Buccaneers are 4-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the region standings

The 17th-ranked Blinn College women's soccer team is off to its best start in program history.

The Buccaneers topped Region 14 foe Paris Junior College 2-0 on Saturday in Paris, Texas, to remain unbeaten this season.

Blinn improved to 4-0-1, and has now set the program's single-season mark for most matches played without a loss.

"Credit goes to the players' hard work and mentality," Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "At the same time, we know it's still early in the season, and our focus is on continuing to grow, staying consistent, and preparing for the challenges ahead. Making history is nice, but our goal is to keep raising the standard every match"

The Bucs also won their second region match in as many days and jumped to 3-0-1 in the region standings.

"Back-to-back games test more than legs – they test mental strength," Jackson added. "We stayed locked in, earned a win, and ended our weekend undefeated. I am really happy with this young team showing up time and time again."

Jackson said she was also impressed with several reserve players who stepped up during the long weekend of action, efforts that were needed to counter the physical demands of 180 minutes of soccer.

"We had many players step up to give some players some rest, and that shows how committed these players are to our motto, 'Seed. Time. Harvest.' It's all about being prepared when it's your turn to contribute, and understanding that it's a process."

Midfielders Allison Bratz and Chloey Mejia accounted for Blinn's offense, which proved to be enough behind another stellar defensive effort from the Bucs.

Blinn has produced two shutouts while allowing just three goals.

Bratz, a sophomore, got things started in the 38th minute with a goal off an assist from sophomore forward Starr Humphreys.

Following the intermission, Mejia gave the Bucs some insurance in the 48th minute when she gathered an assist from freshman midfielder Mikaela Juliano and turned it into the game's final goal.

Blinn finished with 11 shots.

In goal for the Bucs was freshman keeper Haidlyn Hawkins, who made seven saves and earned her second win and first shutout of the season.

Next up for Blinn is a big region showdown with fifth-ranked Navarro College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
