Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 20 Blinn shuts out Northeast Texas for Region 14 road victory

The Buccaneers are now 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in region matchups

The 20th-ranked Blinn College men's soccer team shut out Region 14 rival Northeast Texas Community College 3-0 on the road Friday in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

The Buccaneers (4-1, 2-1 region) took a 1-0 lead into halftime before tacking on a couple of insurance goals in the second half to earn the comfortable victory.

"We had to really work hard for the result today," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "Winning away games in Region 14 is very difficult, so we're really pleased we won this one."

A defensive battle in the first half was interrupted by a goal from freshman forward/defender Malikai Fry.

In the 34th minute, a free kick from sophomore midfielder Sam Sebagabo found sophomore midfielder Nawfal Hadj-Hamou, who headed the ball to Fry for the finish and a 1-0 lead.

Following the intermission, Sebagabo made it a 2-0 advantage when he converted a penalty kick in the 46th minute.

Freshman forward Joseph Udedi closed out the scoring in the 63rd minute when he gathered a combined give from sophomore forward Cristian Estrada and sophomore forward Kayde Gielinck and buried a shot.

The Bucs out-shot the Eagles 19-3 with an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Bucs sophomore goalkeeper Noah LeMaster preserved the shutout with one save. He improved to 4-1 in goal for Blinn.

The shutout pushed Blinn's defensive excellence against Northeast Texas to almost three years. The Eagles last scored a goal against the Bucs on Sept. 7, 2022. Starting with a 3-1 victory on April 6, 2021, Blinn has won nine consecutive matches against Northeast Texas.

Up next, Blinn gets right back to work when it visits region foe Paris Junior College at 2:30 p.m. in Paris, Texas. Another streak is on the line as the Bucs will look to make it six consecutive wins against the Dragons. Blinn has not lost to Paris since Sept. 18, 2018, and is 11-1-1 all time against the Dragons.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
