Blinn Rocket League battles past Bevill State for victory in regular-season finale

The Buccaneers have won eight consecutive matches

The Blinn College esports Rocket League team wrapped up its NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) regular season with a victory over Bevill State Community College on Friday.

The Buccaneers defeated the Bears 3-1 in a best-of-five matchup.

Earning the victory for Blinn were Xavier Johnson, Braeden Pomeroy, and Jeffrey Decou.

Rocket League combines elements of soccer with fast-paced car mechanics. Teams of three players use rocket-powered vehicles to hit a ball into the opponent's goal. Teams with the most goals during a five-minute match win.

The Bucs have won eight consecutive matches and improved to 10-3.

Blinn won the first to rounds of play 5-2 and 2-1, and after dropping the third game 3-2, bounced back for a 3-2 triumph to clinch the series.

"With playoffs on the horizon, this match gave us a great opportunity to bring up junior varsity player Jeffrey Decou for some valuable varsity experience and he delivered for us tonight," Bucs head coach and Rocket League manager Kyle Murto said. "I'm extremely proud of the way Jeffrey competed and how the entire team supported his transition into the varsity environment. This win should lock us into solid playoff seeding, and with momentum on our side, we're looking to carry this energy into the postseason and make a serious run."

Blinn's NJCAAe playoff schedule is to be determined.
