Rough sixth inning dooms No. 4 Blinn in Region XIV South loss to San Jacinto-North

The Buccaneers and Ravens continue their four-game series Thursday in Houston

A tough day at the plate and in the field for No. 4 Blinn College baseball resulted in a 10-0, six-inning loss to San Jacinto College-North in the opener of a four-game Region XIV South series Tuesday at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham, Texas.

The setback dropped the Buccaneers to 14-5 overall and 3-1 in the South.

Blinn trailed just 1-0 in the top of the sixth inning when a pair of defensive errors allowed the Ravens to push nine runs – including eight unearned – across the plate.

"That was just a nightmare inning," Bucs head coach Dusty Hart said. "When you don't pitch and play defense, bad things happen. We made one bad error, and it snowballed from there. When something bad happens, somebody has to step up and make a play or make a pitch to get us out of trouble, and unfortunately that didn't happen tonight."

Blinn was unable to find an answer at the plate as sophomore Bennett Fryman's single accounted for the hosts' lone hit of the ballgame.

Four Bucs pitchers limited San Jacinto to five hits, but issued 10 walks.

Sophomore right-hander Reece Wagner started for Blinn and took the loss after allowing an earned run in 2 innings. He struck out four, walked four, and didn't allow a hit.

The Bucs and Ravens continue their series at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Houston, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
