Blinn League of Legends falls to St. Louis in NJCAA Esports matchup

The Buccaneers dropped to 1-2 in CLOL play

The Blinn College esports team fell to St. Louis Community College 2-1 in a League of Legends bout Monday.

The setback in the best-of-three series dropped the Buccaneers to 1-2 in Collegiate League of Legends (CLOL) play.

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) where teams of five players select champions with unique abilities to work together to gain control over a map. The game's objective is to destroy the enemy Nexus while securing objectives like turrets, inhibitors, and neutral monsters. Teams must control a map and destroy a Nexus while contesting neutral objectives such as Dragons and Baron Nashor for powerful boosts.

Competing for Blinn on Monday were Brian Shi, Richard Le, Braxton Jones, Alec Chojecki, and Chandler Collins.

"In the end, we just made one too many mistakes and St. Louis did a good job of capitalizing to claim the series," said Blinn assistant coach Ryan Lucich, who manages the League of Legends team. "I want to shout out Chandler Collins, who had to fill in at the last minute and had great performances in games two and three. We have a lot of footage to review and we'll determine what we need to work on for next week."

The Bucs' League of Legends schedule continues with a CLOL tilt against Salt Lake Community College at 6 p.m. On Monday, Feb. 24.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
