Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blinn blanks Region 14 foe Texas Southmost in regular-season finale

The Buccaneers will host No. 14 Tyler in the opening round of the Region 14 Tournament on Oct. 28

The Blinn College women's soccer team is on a roll heading into the Region 14 Tournament.

The Buccaneers earned a 2-0 shutout of region foe Texas Southmost College on Friday in Brownsville, Texas, to conclude the regular season with a five-match winning streak.

The five consecutive wins tie a program record set in 2023. Blinn pushed its shutout streak to four while earning its sixth clean sheet of the year.

The Bucs improved to 9-3-2 overall and finished second in the Region 14 South division with a 7-3-2 mark. Blinn will have home-field advantage for the first round of the region tournament and host No. 14 Tyler Junior College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

"It's great to end the regular season on a five-game win streak, as it shows that our players are turning it on at the right time when other teams are tired," Bucs head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "We talk about the season being split up into three sub-seasons: Non-region; region; and postseason. We want to be firing on all cylinders come playoffs, and we are heading into the postseason healthy, energized, and ready to compete."

Blinn was ready to compete right out of the gate Friday as it took just 13 minutes for the Bucs to get on the scoreboard.

Freshman midfielder Chloey Mejia gave Blinn the only goal it would need when she scored on a free kick.

The Bucs added an insurance tally later in the half on a goal from sophomore midfielder Rebecca Madrid. Sophomore forward Starr Humphreys provided the assist.

Blinn had 16 shots and held the Scorpions to just two.

In goal for the Bucs was keeper Haidlyn Hawkins. The freshman made two saves for her fifth shutout and improved to 5-3-2.

Blinn now turns its attention to Tyler. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in their only meeting of the season Aug. 28 in Brenham.

The Bucs will look to advance to the second round of the region tournament for the third time in program history.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
