Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

First-half lead not enough as Blinn drops home match to Hill

The Buccaneers face Region XIV foe Northeast Texas on the road Sept. 6

The Blinn College women's soccer team was unable to hold a first-half lead as Hill College rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Buccaneers on Tuesday at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn (1-2) scored its lone goal on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute of play but was unable to convert any of its 16 shots – including eight on goal. Hill totaled 15 shots (six on goal).

"I thought we dominated the game today," Bucs head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "We just didn't convert on the chances we got to score goals and put the game away. We currently lack the mental fortitude to finish games. Hopefully we are able to learn and grow from this."

Freshman defender Maria Espinel put Blinn ahead 1-0 when she fired her penalty shot past the outstretched hands of the Hill goalkeeper.

The Bucs maintained their lead until the Rebels knotted the score with a tally in the 66th minute. Nine minutes later, Hill jumped ahead for good with a score in the 75th.

Blinn freshman goalkeeper Brooke Assur collected 10 saves.

The Bucs resume Region XIV play with a road trip to Northeast Texas Community College at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
