Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Blinn's furious second-half rally comes up short against No. 14 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M

The Buccaneers now turn to their home opener against Southern Arkansas University Tech on Tuesday, Nov. 12

The Blinn College men's basketball team gave 14th-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College a fight until the end, but ultimately came up short 82-76 on the final day of the Elite 8 Shootout on Tuesday in Edmond, Okla.

The Buccaneers are now 0-2 overall.

"We played some different guys tonight as we continue to try to figure some things out, and we're still trying to correct our mistakes," Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. "We put guys in different spots today and we'll continue to put our players in different spots until we find the guys who can step up for us. It's hard to win no matter who you are playing, and when you have an opportunity to make an impact in a game, you have to relish in that moment and take advantage of it."

The Bucs and the Norsemen were neck-and-neck in the first half and played to a 24-all stalemate with 7:30 remaining before the break. NEO then went on a 23-8 run to take a 47-32 lead into halftime.

The Norsemen continued its momentum in the second half as they extended their lead to 59-40 with less than 13 minutes to go, but Blinn caught fire to make it a ballgame.

Freshman forward Ziyade Ndancky buried a nifty reverse layup to get the Bucs moving, and freshman guard Dashawn Ceaser followed with a layup while drawing a foul. Blinn's surge continued past the 6-minute mark when sophomore guard Reese Miller closed the gap with a floater before being fouled moments later. Miller sank the front end of a pair of free throws to cut NEO's lead to 63-60.

Following a Norsemen 3-pointer, Ndancky was fouled and an NEO technical foul followed, sending both Miller and Ndancky to the line for a pair of free throws. After converting three of the free buckets and making it a 66-63 contest, the Bucs would get no closer the rest of the way.

"I loved the fight and the fact our guys kept working hard in the second half," Schumacher added. "Now we just have to figure it out for an entire game."

Miller tallied a team-high 20 points, while Ceaser followed with 18. Sophomore forwards Anthony Isaac and London Maiden chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively. Ziyade also had 10 points.

Freshman guard Jerry Peoples paced Blinn with eight rebounds, Isaac had seven, and Miller and Ziyade had six apiece.

Up next, Blinn plays its first home game of the season when it hosts Southern Arkansas University Tech at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
