Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blinn's season comes to a close with Region XIV Tournament loss to Trinity Valley

The Buccaneers concluded their year after reaching the postseason for a fifth consecutive season

The Blinn College women's soccer team concluded its season with a first-round Region XIV Tournament loss to Trinity Valley Community College on Friday at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers fell 4-1 to the Cardinals, bringing an end to another positive season of Blinn soccer.

"This match was the hard-fought barn burner that we thought it would be," Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "Trinity Valley scored first and we fought right back; unfortunately, we conceded three goals after that and that is hard to come back from."

Trinity Valley, the third seed out of the Region XIV North division, scored in the 20th minute when a shot deflected off the hands of Bucs sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Clark.

Blinn answered less than a minute later when freshman defender Maria Espinel was fouled in the corner of the box. She was awarded a penalty kick and buried her shot in the top-right corner of the net to even the score.

The Cardinals regained the lead in the 30th minute and tacked on two more tallies before halftime to cap the scoring.

In light of their early postseason exit, the Bucs put forth yet another successful campaign this fall. Blinn put together its second consecutive winning season while earning its fifth playoff berth in as many seasons. The Bucs also hosted a playoff match in back-to-back years.

"Tonight ended the Blinn career of a lot of Buccaneer legends, as this group helped the program earn its first NJCAA ranking and change the standards and expectations of our program. We are forever grateful, and while the loss burns a lot, I believe it will be fuel for the future for our staff and players."

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
