Defense sets up second-half rally as No. 24 Blinn tops Panola

The Buccaneers allowed just 15 points after halftime en route to the Region XIV road victory

An impressive second-half defensive effort keyed the No. 24 Blinn College women's basketball team to 51-40 Region XIV road victory over Panola College on Saturday in Carthage, Texas.

The Buccaneers are now 14-5 overall with a 5-1 record in region play.

Blinn's strong defensive showing was paired with some timely shooting from the 3-point line, greatly aiding the Bucs as they trailed by seven after the first period and 25-23 by halftime.

"We hit 11 3-pointers and defended very well," Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. "We still need to finish around the rim better and make our free throws in order to reach our potential down the stretch."

The Bucs will take a brief detour from its region slate to host Western Gulf College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas. The Blinn men's basketball team will face No. 11 Lee College following the conclusion of the women's matchup.
