The Blinn College esports team dropped a Super Smash Bros bout to the University of Texas-Dallas on Thursday.
The match was played in a best-of-three format and saw UT-Dallas prevail 2-0.
The Buccaneers are now 1-3 overall in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) West-Central Conference.
Competing for Blinn were Joshua Delossantos, Brady Landry, Gabe Pipes, and Tanner Hicks.
"UT-Dallas is one of the top-tier programs in the nation for Super Smash Bros, so we expected a tough match," said Blinn assistant coach and Super Smash Bros manager Kyle Murto. "What truly stands out, though, is the remarkable performance of our players, especially considering that this is their first semester participating in competitive play. Despite the challenging circumstances, they have exhibited impressive resilience, refrained from frustration, and never gave up. As their coach, I couldn't be prouder of their determination and dedication to improving their skills in the face of such fierce competition. Our team's future in the world of competitive Super Smash Bros certainly looks promising."
Up next for the Blinn Super Smash Bros team is a NACE bout against Lubbock Christian University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5.
