Blinn College esports picked up a pair of victories Tuesday.   

The Buccaneer Call of Duty team earned a decisive 3-0 victory over Guilford Technical Community College in its NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) season opener, while No. 27 Blinn Overwatch shut out Keyano College 3-0 in a National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) match.   

Blinn's Call of Duty squad of David Rodriguez, Landon Campos, Michael Allen, and Logan Rivera earned the win for the Bucs in the best-of-five format, giving the team its first overall victory of the fall. Blinn Call of Duty is 1-1 across NJCAAe and NACE play this season.   

"This was a small glimpse of what this team is capable of," said Blinn assistant coach and Call of Duty manager Ryan Lucich. "All four of our players have been very motivated and have already put in a lot of work to bond, communicate, and work well together in game. They continue to get better day by day and I can't wait to see where we end up as the season goes on."   

The Buccaneers play their next Call of Duty NACE match against Oklahoma Christian University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13.   

In Overwatch play, Blinn defeated Keyano in a best-of-five series.   

Behind the strong play of Haluk Tanriseven, Donnivan Straight, Andrew Dugas, Matthew Hutchings, and Francisco Amezcua, the Bucs improved to 2-0 in the NACE West-Central 2 Conference.   

"We were well prepared," said Blinn assistant coach Kyle Murto, who coaches the Overwatch team. "We came out of the gate quickly and never really let up." 

Up next, Blinn Overwatch battles Hawkeye Community College in an NJCAAe matchup at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.    

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
