Blinn Valorant advances in South Regional while Call of Duty team reaches nationals

The Buccaneer Call of Duty squad begins play toward its first national tournament on Nov. 28

The Blinn College esports Valorant and Call of Duty teams continued their postseason runs Tuesday.

The Buccaneer Valorant squad of Adam Lammoumi, Teague Morgan, Jovanni Miramontes, Connor Corley, and Ludovi Lefebrve-Lavigne defeated Cumberland University in the second round of the Collegiate Valorant South Regional Tournament.

Valorant earned a 2-1 victory in a best-of-three matchup and will now face Columbia College in the tournament quarterfinals at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18.

"We finished strong after a back-and-forth start to win the series," Blinn esports head coach and Valorant manager Aaron Kapiko said. "The team played well and we are looking forward to making the double-elimination stage and hopefully bringing home another South Regional title this fall."

Blinn defeated Wichita State University in the opening round of the tournament to advance.

Blinn's Call of Duty team of David Rodriguez, Landon Campos, Logan Rivera, and Wesley King suffered a tough 3-2 setback to Central Community College in a best-of-five NJCAA Esports Regional Playoffs championship tilt.

Though the Bucs were defeated, they qualified for the NJCAA Esports Call of Duty National Tournament as the bracket's No. 2 seed.

Blinn assistant coach and Call of Duty manager Ryan Lucich said he was proud of his team's effort against Central, and predicted the Bucs may face the Raiders again should his group reach the championship match.

While we all feel disappointed with how the series (against Central) went, I think it shows a lot of promise," Lucich said. "This is likely the team we will have to play in the national championship, and we feel more than confident that we can take it. Every player stepped up and had big moments, we just fell a little bit short in the end."

Blinn will face the University of South Carolina-Sumter in the semifinal round of the national tournament at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28. If the Bucs win, they will advance to the title match beginning at 8 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
