The Blinn College esports team absorbed a 2-0 loss to Lubbock Christian University in a Super Smash Bros matchup Thursday.
The National Association of College Esports (NACE) match was played under a three-versus-three, best-of-three format.
The Bucs are now 1-4 in the NACE West-Central Conference.
Competing for Blinn were Joshua Delossantos, Brady Landry, Gabe Pipes, Tanner Hicks, and Adaora Ihediwa.
"Going into this match, we knew this would be an exceedingly difficult matchup, but we ended up performing exceptionally well despite the loss," said Blinn assistant coach and Super Smash Bros manager Kyle Murto. "We ended up getting to Lubbock's third man in both matches, which is an impressive feat. We showed some big improvements from last week as all of our players busted their butts to improve. We still have a lot of work we need to get done, but we are constantly improving and that's what matters."
Blinn will take on the University of Guam in its NACE finale at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
