Box Score

The Blinn College football team ran into a tough Navarro College squad Saturday, as the Buccaneers dropped a 44-13 Southwest Junior College Football Conference decision to the Bulldogs in Corsicana, Texas.

The Buccaneers are now 2-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

"We have to learn from this in every facet possible and do our very best not to make these same mistakes that we made today," said Blinn head coach Ryan Mahon. "We put ourselves in bad situations and didn't make the plays necessary to get out of them."

Blinn's offense had a tough time finding its footing, with freshman kick Max Nowak providing the Bucs their only points of the first half on a 35-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Navarro scored a pair of TDs in the first quarter and its defense forced a safety in the second, giving the Bulldogs a 16-3 cushion at halftime.

Blinn was hindered by a total of 18 penalties, which Mahon said enabled Navarro to pull away in the second half.

"We have to be more disciplined," he explained. "You can't win football games committing penalties the way we did today."

Navarro scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to take control of the ballgame.

Blinn got back on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when freshman quarterback Khalib Johnson threw a touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Anthony Dansby

Nowak's 39-yard boot through the uprights late in the fourth capped the scoring.

Up next for the Bucs is a homecoming conference clash with ninth-ranked Trinity Valley Community College scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Cub Stadium in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
