Blinn Overwatch continues strong run in OWCCS Swiss Stage with pair of sweeps

The Buccaneers defeated the University of Delaware and the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday

The Blinn College esports Overwatch team continued its strong run in the Overwatch Collegiate Championship Series (OWCCS) with a pair of victories Saturday.

Competing in the 10-round Swiss Stage of the OWCCS, the Buccaneers defeated the University of Delaware and the New Jersey Institute 2-0 in a pair of best-of-three matchups.

Blinn's team of Kyoung Lee, Haluk Tanriseven, Matthew Hutchings, Donnivan Straight, Dhruv Pandrangi is now 5-1 in the Swiss Stage.

"These matches were smooth sailing for us, as we came out strong, took control from the start, and never really let up," Blinn assistant coach and Overwatch manager Kyle Murto said. "We played with great energy and confidence as we coordinated our attacks and locked down our defenses. Our synergy was on point, and it felt like we were always a step ahead as we set the pace and dictated the flow of every team fight."

Blinn's next matches in the Swiss Stage will take place at 1:30 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. Per OWCCS customs, the Bucs' opponents will not be revealed until shortly before play begins.

"It's awesome to see all of the team's hard work paying off like it has so far," added Murto, "and I'm excited to see the players build on their momentum as we move forward."

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
