David Johnson

David Johnson enters his seventh season as head coach of the Blinn College men's and women's golf programs after helping launch the programs in 2019. 

Across 40 years as a college coach, Johnson has produced nine NJCAA national tournament appearances, seven NJCAA All-Americans, six all-region medalists, 30 Region XIV all-region athletes, 14 Region XIV all-region academic athletes, and more than 50 NJCAA Academic All-Americans.

In 2025, both the Blinn men's and women's team qualified for the NJCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships. The women qualified for the third time in team history and placed a program-best fifth, while the men made their fourth nationals appearance and placed 17th. Both the men and women's teams also claimed Region XIV regular-season championships.

In 2024, both the Blinn men's and women's team qualified for the NJCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships. The women qualified for the second time in team history and placed 10th, while the men made their third nationals appearance and placed 15th.

The 2023 spring season was historic for the Blinn men. The Buccaneers captured their fourth Region XIV title and qualified for the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship tournament for the second time in program history. Blinn finished eighth as a team, while sophomore Ty Thomas finished fifth individually and became the program's first All-American. 

The Blinn women also had a strong 2023 season, which included three team victories in the fall and a pair of individual berths in the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship tournament.

The majority of Johnson's career has been spent coaching two-year college athletic programs. He spent 11 seasons as the men's golf coach at Paris Junior College, including one as athletic director. 
Under Johnson’s guidance, the Dragons made five NJCAA National Tournament appearances, won two NJCAA Region XIV Conference championships, and finished as runner-up in five NJCAA Region XIV Conference tournaments. He coached four NJCAA All-Americans, three Region XIV medalists, 16 NJCAA All-Region XIV players, and seven All-Region XIV academic team members. 

Johnson is a former president and vice president of the NJCAA Golf Coaches Association, as well as a former secretary for the NJCAA Men's Golf Association. He has served as an NJCAA All-America nomination committee member and was a voting member for the Golf Week Magazine NJCAA poll and for the NJCAA national poll. He also was a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America. 

Prior to Paris, Johnson spent seven seasons as a coach for the Navarro College football team while teaching various courses, including golf. 

Other tenures include coaching football and golf at Cisco Junior College and Howard Payne University and coaching football at Hardin-Simmons University. While at Howard Payne, he launched a new golf program. 

Johnson earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Howard Payne University and his Master of Education from Tarleton State University. 

Johnson and his wife, Amy, have two children, Bethany and Kacey; and two grandchildren, Michael and Madilynn.
