James Leverton

James Leverton begins his second season as an assistant coach for the Blinn College baseball team. 

A native of Rockwall, Texas, Leverton was an eighth-round draft pick in 2008 out of Texas Tech University, where he played three seasons as a pitcher, outfielder and first baseman.

In 2025, Leverton led a Buccaneer pitching staff with guided the team to a 48-15 record, a Region XIV South regular-season title, a Region XIV South Regional championship, a Mid-South District title, and a third consecutive appearance in the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series. The Blinn pitching staff featured two players with 10 or more wins and posted a 4.37 earned run average with eight complete games, 11 shutouts, 10 saves, two no-hitters, and 557 strikeouts against 256 walks. 

Prior to his time coaching, Leverton spent seven seasons in the minor leagues with the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins organizations. 
Following the conclusion of his professional career, he  served as an assistant for the McLennan Community College baseball team for six seasons, where Leverton was part of three conference championships, a pair of NJCAA World Series appearances and the 2021 NJCAA National Championship.

He also spent a season as the pitching coach at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, before being named Baylor University's pitching coach in 2022. 

He received his bachelor’s degree in general studies in 2016 from Texas Tech. He and his wife, Casey, have a son, Parker.
