Blinn falls to No. 7 Navarro late in Region 14 clash

Up next, the Buccaneers host LSU-Eunice on Friday, Sept. 25

Blinn College women's soccer held No. 7 Navarro College scoreless for nearly the entire match Sunday, but the Bulldogs found the net in the final seven minutes to hand the Buccaneers a 1-0 Region 14 loss in Corsicana, Texas.

The loss dropped Blinn to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in Region 14 play.

The Buccaneers generated 12 shots to Navarro's five and earned three corner kicks to the Bulldogs' two, but Blinn was unable to capitalize on its opportunities.

"We had opportunities to win this game but couldn't put it in the back of the net for the first time this season," Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said.

Sophomore goalkeeper Reese Cauthen made four saves for the Bucs.

"The girls played with a lot of heart and passion," Jackson added. "I couldn't ask for any more. Soccer is a cruel game sometimes, and it breaks your heart. You can do everything right and still lose."

All four of Blinn's losses this season have come against opponents currently ranked in the NJCAA Division I poll.

Jackson said the Bucs must quickly turn their attention to their next match as they look to maintain their place atop the Region 14 South standings.

"I told the girls, 'forget this one and let's move forward,'" Jackson said. "We have to handle our business against LSUE to stay in control of the South."

Blinn hosts Louisiana State University-Eunice for a region bout at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
