Blinn rolls past Community Christian for non-conference win

The Buccaneers scored 31 first-half points and recorded their first shutout since 2025

Blinn College football dominated Community Christian from start to finish, defeating the Spartans 66-0 in non-conference play Saturday at Cub Stadium in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 2-1 overall with the victory, their first shutout since a 69-0 win over Transformation With Athletics in the opening week of the 2025 season. Blinn's 66 points were its most since that 69-point performance.

Freshman quarterback David Richardson made his first start of the season after making his collegiate debut in last week's loss to Tyler Junior College. Richardson rushed for two touchdowns in the second half against Tyler and continued to make an impact with his legs Saturday while also showing his ability through the air.

Richardson connected with sophomore wide receivers Travaris Turner-Smith and Savion Conteh for touchdown passes in the first quarter, finding Turner-Smith for a 22-yard score before connecting with Conteh on a 26-yard strike. The two scoring tosses were the first collegiate passing TDs of Richardson's career.

Richardson also consistently picked up positive yardage with his legs as he guided the Buccaneers to a 24-0 first-quarter lead.

"I was happy about David in his first start," Blinn head coach Ryan Mahon said. "He put the ball where it was supposed to go, he played under control, and he was on time. Again, just really happy with his performance."

Blinn continued to roll in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Jack Emerson connected with second-year wide receiver Ashton Cartwright on a 64-yard touchdown pass with 7:59 remaining in the half. The score gave the Buccaneers a 31-0 lead, which they carried into halftime.

Blinn went to the well early and often throughout the game, using its depth to maintain the offensive and defensive pressure while getting a number of players valuable game experience.

Freshman linebacker Adam Kirtley added to the Buccaneers' lead early in the third quarter when he recovered a botched snap in the end zone on a Community Christian punt attempt. The PAT was missed, making it 37-0.

Gasper Jr. scored his second touchdown of the game on an 8-yard run with 9:59 remaining in the third quarter and added the two-point conversion to push Blinn's advantage to 45-0.

Freshman quarterback Kaleb Bailey then connected with freshman wide receiver Cartelle Brown on a 39-yard touchdown pass before sophomore quarterback Gunner Nelson found freshman wide receiver Kevin Davis III for a 9-yard score.

Freshman running back Alex Eugene capped the rout with a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:24 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Gasper Jr.'s two touchdowns marked the first two rushing scores of his collegiate career, while freshman kicker Camilo Garcia-Matute added a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Mahon was pleased with the Buccaneers' overall execution, particularly on special teams.

"I was happy with how we executed in all phases tonight," Mahon added. "We cleaned up a lot of things."

The Buccaneers' ability to maintain their standard throughout the blowout was also important to Mahon.

"We were able to get a lot of new guys some real game experience," Mahon explained. "The focal point for us was to focus on the play at hand. The guys who started and our reserves maintained that standard."

Mahon said the team's approach was as important as the final score.

"I put a lot of value into the fact that we did things the right way," he said.

Up next, the Bucs will resume play in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference when they host No. 8 Navarro College at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Cub Stadium.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
