Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second-half lull hinders Blinn in loss to No. 5 Trinity Valley

The Buccaneers turn their attention to the Region 14 Tournament, which begins March 10

The Blinn College men's basketball team closed its regular season with an 80-58 Region 14 home loss to No. 5 Trinity Valley Community College on Wednesday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers fell to 19-11 overall and 13-9 in the region standings, while Trinity Valley clinched the top seed for the upcoming Region 14 Tournament.

Blinn was looking to complete a two-game season sweep of the Cardinals and remained within striking distance throughout the first half. Trinity Valley carried a slim 35-31 lead into halftime.

The Buccaneers continued to battle early in the second half and pulled within 42-40 on a 3-pointer from freshman guard/forward Ian Sedah, but the Cardinals answered with a 15-2 run to pull away for good.

Sedah scored a team-high 20 points, while freshman guard Desmeon Jones added 11.

Prior to the game, Blinn celebrated eight sophomores as part of its Sophomore Day festivities: guards Dashawn Ceaser, Tyson Mobley, and Christian Umana; forwards Rollings Kamanda, Kenaz Ochogwu, Nolan Aigberadion, and Vejas Matekonis; and team manager Cole Dobyanski.

Up next, Blinn will compete in the Region 14 Tournament, which begins Tuesday, March 10, on the campus of Lee College in Baytown, Texas. The tournament champion will earn an automatic berth to the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship in Hutchinson, Kan.

Final seeds and matchups for the region tournament have yet to be determined.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
