Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Arellano’s big night fuels Blinn’s playoff victory over Paris

The Buccaneers will face No. 6 in the Region 14 Tournament semifinals Friday

The Blinn College women's soccer team shut out Paris Junior College 3-0 in the first round of the Region 14 Tournament on Tuesday at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 10-4-1 overall and advanced to the regional semifinals for the third time in program history since 2019.

Blinn will now face No. 6 Tyler Junior College in the Region 14 Tournament semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday at Rankin Field.

"I'm happy we got the win tonight, and I'm glad to be back in the semifinals," Bucs head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "Now we have to turn around and prepare for an even tougher opponent. It's win or go home from here, but we get the opportunity to compete on our home field. I'm proud of this group, but we're not finished yet."

Sophomore midfielder Lilly Arellano scored twice Tuesday to lead the Bucs. She opened the scoring in the 23rd minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Chloe Mejia before finding the net again in the 45th minute on a pass from freshman forward Chelsea Mentado.

Blinn carried a 2-0 advantage into halftime and continued to control the match in the second half, outshooting Paris 32-5 and earning 10 corner kicks to the Dragons' one.

Freshman defender Tanja Huber added an insurance goal in the 74th minute, converting a penalty kick to secure the shutout victory.

The clean sheet was Blinn's eighth of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Reese Cauthen recorded three saves to earn her seventh shutout of the year, extending her single-season program record. Cauthen improved to 9-3-1 overall.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
