Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 20 Blinn powers past No. 13 Coastal Bend for Region 14 road win

The Buccaneers defeated the Cougars on the road for the first time in program history

The 20th-ranked Blinn College men's soccer team earned an impressive and much-needed 3-1 Region 14 road win over No. 13 Coastal Bend College on Tuesday in Beeville, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 6-2-1 overall and 4-2 in region play.

The victory also pushed Blinn into a second-place tie with Coastal Bend in the region standings. The Bucs also handed the Cougars their first home loss since Oct. 12, 2022, and earned their first road triumph in Beeville.

"The lads really got after it today," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said.  "They worked their socks off all game and were greatly rewarded for their efforts. This is a big win for us and now it's on to the next one."

The Bucs built a 2-0 lead in the first half before adding its third goal late in the second half. Coastal Bend got on the board in the 81st minute.

Blinn started the scoring in the 21st when sophomore defender Alek Melo turned an assist from freshman midfielder Paolo Imeneo and sophomore midfielder Sam Sebagabo and turned it into a 1-0 lead.

Sebagabo made it 2-0 in the 50th with help from Melo. The first-year Buc now has eight goals on the season and joined the program's top-10 single-season and career goals lists.

"Sam put in a truly mammoth shift," McBride said. "He epitomized the desire the whole team showed today."

Freshman forward Joseph Udedi gave the Bucs a 3-0 advantage when he buried an assist from sophomore forward Cristian Estrada and sophomore midfielder Nawfal Hadj-Hamou.

The Bucs out-shot the Cougars 20-12 and earned an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Blinn sophomore goalkeeper Noah LeMaster earned the victory behind eight saves and earned his sixth win of the season. LeMaster needs two more victories to tie the program record set by former Bucs keeper Kevin Pena in 2022.

Blinn's region slate continues with a road bout at Louisiana State University-Eunice at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Eunice, La.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
