No. 4 Blinn comes up short in non-region road loss at Navarro

The Buccaneers begin a three-game Region XIV South series with Alvin on Wednesday

The fourth-ranked Blinn College baseball team fell to Navarro College 13-6 in a non-region matchup Monday in Corsicana, Texas.

The Buccaneers dropped to 24-7 overall.

A tough day in the field hindered Blinn, with four defensive errors leading to seven unearned runs for the Bulldogs.

"We just didn't play well today," Bucs head coach Dusty Hart said. "We had too many errors and walks against a quality opponent, and that will get you beat every time, especially on the road. We hung around offensively, but we were unable to put up enough zeroes on the board to get back in the game."

Blinn struck first on sophomore Bennett Fryman's sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, but Navarro answered with a run in the home half of the frame before taking the lead for good with a three-run second.

The Bucs were down 6-1 in the fifth when freshman Trey Craig singled in a run followed by a two-run base hit for sophomore Ethan Gonzalez to bring the visitors within two.

Navarro pulled away again with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and answered Blinn's two-run eighth with three runs of its own in the inning.

The Bucs finished with eight hits, including two for Craig and sophomore Lane Allen.

Sophomore pitcher Paxton Terveen started for Blinn and took the loss after 3 1/3 innings on the mound.

The Bucs continue their season with a three-game Region XIV South series against Alvin Community College beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 50 national championships since 1987.
