Blinn routs Western Gulf with team-wide offensive effort

The Buccaneers moved to 18-5 overall

The Blinn College women's basketball team powered past Western Gulf College for an 87-31 non-region home win Wednesday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 18-5 overall.

Blinn took control early and head coach Jeff Jenkins was able to empty his bench as the hosts utilized a team effort to dispatch the Red Gales.

"This was a good game to get good game minutes for a lot of players who practice so hard for us every day," Jenkins said. "Thirteen of the 14 players who saw the floor today got in the scoring column, and I can't say enough about all 14 players' defensive effort."

The Bucs controlled the action early and often, building a 21-8 first-quarter lead before extending their advantage to 37-18 by halftime. Blinn led 62-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bucs also thrived with the help of 13 3-pointers, including three for sophomore guard Jonesha Neal and two apiece for sophomore guard Wynter Jones, freshman forward Antronea Jackson, and freshman guard Jasey Campbell.

Neal tallied a team-high 14 points, followed by 10 for Campbell and sophomore forward Tocarra Johnson.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 50 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
