Blinn splits twin bill with Northwest Shoals, No. 4 Northwest Florida State

The Buccaneers face Northwest Shoals and Northwest Florida again on Saturday

The Blinn College softball team began its four-game run in Niceville, Fla., with a doubleheader split with Northwest Shoals Community College and No. 4 Northwest Florida State College on Friday.

The Buccaneers began the day with a 2-0 shutout of Northwest Shoals before dropping a 12-0, five-inning decision to Northwest Florida.

Blinn moved to 3-11 on the year.

To begin the day, the Bucs were the beneficiaries of a dominant pitching performance from freshman Brynn Gallamore.

The right-hander mowed down the Patriots with 10 strikeouts and allowed just two hits without issuing a walk.

The Blinn lineup helped make Gallamore a winner behind a pair of early-game runs.

Sophomore Bailey Boetjer smacked an RBI single in the top of the first inning, and Gallamore gave herself a bit of insurance with an RBI double in the third.

The Bucs finished with nine hits, led by two apiece for sophomore Darian DeLeon and freshmen Halle Scheel and Annie Beckendorf.

Blinn was unable to replicate its success in game two, as Northwest Florida pitcher Mallory Baker threw a no-hitter while the Raider offense got to the Bucs' pitching staff early to earn the run-rule victory.

Northwest Florida scored two runs in the bottom of the second frame, tacked on nine in the third, and added one more in the fourth.

Blinn will get another crack at the Raiders and Patriots on Saturday as they face both teams in a twin bill beginning at 10 a.m. in Niceville.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 50 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
