No. 24 Blinn rallies past Kilgore in fourth quarter for Region XIV road win

The Buccaneers improved to 21-5 and 8-2 in the region standings

The 24th-ranked Blinn College women's basketball team went on the road and returned with a crucial 66-57 come-from-behind Region XIV win over Kilgore College on Wednesday in Kilgore, Texas.

The victory pushed the Buccaneers to 21-5 overall and 8-2 in the region standings, where they remain tied with No. 15 Trinity Valley Community College for first place.

Blinn handed Kilgore its first home loss of the season, and used a fourth-quarter rally to make it happen. The Rangers entered the game 10-0 on their home floor.

"This was a huge road win for us," Bucs head coach Jeff Jenkins said. "It was a tough atmosphere for us as Kilgore had a great crowd with the band and Rangerettes there, but we just kept grinding for three quarters and kept it close. In the fourth, we finally made some plays and separated ourselves."

Kilgore led Blinn after each of the first three periods. The Rangers were ahead 19-15 heading into the second quarter, 28-27 at halftime, and 48-45 by the end of the third.

Blinn outscored the Rangers 21-9 across the final 10 minutes to earn the win.

Sophomore guard Jonesha Neal paced the Bucs with 22 points and added seven rebounds, sophomore forward DJ Kincade had 10 points and five rebounds, sophomore guard Ja'Nya Thomas and freshman guard Jasey Campbell tacked on nine points apiece, and sophomore forward Tocarra Johnson had seven points and 11 rebounds.

"I can't say enough about the depth of this team and how it helps us late in the game," added Jenkins.

Blinn gets back to work with a region home matchup against Tyler Junior College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 50 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
