Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Blinn runs through Western Gulf to conclude perfect Blinn Classic run

The Buccaneers will visit Hill College at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 9

The Blinn College women's basketball team concluded the Blinn Classic with a resounding 79-40 victory over Western Gulf College on Sunday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers earned their fifth consecutive win and improved to 8-4 this season. Blinn won each of its three games during the three-day Classic.

Since hosting the first Blinn Classic during the 2023-24 season, the Bucs are 7-0 in their home tournament.

"I thought our defense was really good tonight," Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. "Western Gulf hit some tough, contested shots in the first quarter, and we need to be better on the boards and take better care of the ball, but overall I was happy with the result."

Jenkins was also able to empty his bench once again as his entire roster saw extended time on the court.

Blinn and Western Gulf went toe-to-toe across the first 10 minutes, with the Bucs holding on to a 19-15 lead heading into the second period.

Blinn began finding separation in the second quarter and built a 36-19 halftime lead. The Bucs continued to roll after the break and pushed their cushion to 62-29 after three quarters of play.

Blinn's offense was given a boost with 11 3-pointers.

Sophomore guard Jasey Campbell had a season-high and career-high 19 points to lead the Buccaneers, and knocked down four 3s in the process. Freshman guard Mia Colston also hit four treys — including three in the fourth quarter — to finish with 12 points. Sophomore guard Jaya Gradney, freshman guard Mariah Davis, and freshman forward Kamaria Ford chipped in seven points apiece.

Blinn's season continues with a non-region road trip to Hill College at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, in Hillsboro, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
