Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 9 Blinn rolls past Hill for third consecutive shutout

The Buccaneers pushed their winning streak to six and improved to 11-2-1 overall

The Blinn College men's soccer team continued its late-season surge with an impressive 3-0 road win over Hill College on Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas.

The ninth-ranked Buccaneers earned their sixth consecutive victory and third shutout in as many matches while improving to 11-2-1 overall.

"The team showed real efficiency in front of the goal — something that had been missing in recent games," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "We made the most of our chances, and on the defensive side, we stayed organized and disciplined enough to earn a well-deserved clean sheet."

The Bucs' shutout of the Rebels and win on their pitch were both program firsts.

Freshman goalkeeper Samir Bristol punctuated Blinn's defensive effort with five saves as he improved to 4-0. Bristol was also in goal for the Bucs' shutouts of Texas Southmost College (Oct. 7) and Angelina College (Oct. 10).

Making the defense's job easier was a trio of goals from the Buccaneer offense.

Sophomore defender/forward Kayde Gielinck got things started in the 20th minute when he buried a goal off an assist from freshman forward Shefe Odojukan.

Odojukan made it a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute with a tally assisted by sophomore defender Alek Melo and freshman midfielder Jordan Franco. Sophomore midfielder Sam Sebagabo capped the scoring with a goal in the 83rd minute, aided by freshman midfielder/defender Coltyn Hale and sophomore forward Amir Simpson.

Blinn out-shot the Rebels 13-8 and earned an 8-7 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bucs resume region play when they host Louisiana State University-Eunice at 7 p.m. on Friday at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
