Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

No. 12 Blinn sweeps Vernon for third victory in three days

The Buccaneers begin play in the Amarillo Tournament beginning Friday in Amarillo, Texas

No. 12 Blinn College volleyball's road trip to Amarillo, Texas, for a two-day tournament featured a quick and victorious pitstop at Vernon College on Thursday.

The Buccaneers – playing their third match in as many days – got right back on the road following a 25-17, 25-14, 25-15 sweep of the Chaps in Vernon, Texas.

"I thought the team played well today," Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said, "especially after playing last night and then hitting the road the very next morning."

The Bucs (16-2) are in the midst of a busy week, one which continues at the Amarillo Tournament with two games on both Friday and Saturday in Amarillo, Texas.

A 5 ½ hour trek to Vernon did little to slow Blinn's momentum, as the Bucs pushed their winning streak to nine while picking up their fourth consecutive sweep.

NJCAA Division I national kills leader and sophomore right-side hitter Kellen Dorotik led Blinn's attack against the Chaps with a team-high 13 kills. She now has 295 on the year. Freshman outside hitters Greta Rakow and MaKenna Loo followed with 11 and eight kills, respectively.

The offense ran through the combined efforts of freshman setters Leah Hoss (team-best 20 set assists) and Bromli Watson (13).

Loo added two aces from the service line.

On defense, four players posted double-digit dig totals. Sophomore libero Cierra Pesak paced that effort with 12 digs, Loo added 11, and Hoss and freshman libero Sophie Ilagan had 10 apiece.

At the net, Dorotik, Rakow, and freshman blockers Jana Cetkovic and Rosalinda Navarro each tallied three block assists. Dorotik had two solo blocks while Cetkovic had one.

Blinn now turns its attention to the Amarillo Tournament, where it will kick things off with a matchup against Frank Phillips College at 2 p.m. on Friday. The Bucs will then battle Western Texas College at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Blinn takes on tournament host Amarillo College at 9 a.m. before finishing play with an 11:30 a.m. clash against Independence Community College.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
