No. 15 Blinn continues success at Western Texas Tournament with two season-opening victories

The Buccaneers defeated Dallas College-Mountain View and Dallas College-Richland

The 15th-ranked Blinn College volleyball team burst onto the scene with a pair of season-opening victories Friday at the Western Texas Tournament in Snyder, Texas.

The Buccaneers picked up a sweep of Dallas College-Mountain View (25-11, 25-14, 25-14) and outlasted Dallas College-Richland in four sets (26-24, 18-25, 25-12, 25-14).

"It's always great to open your season with a pair of wins," Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said.

The Bucs thrived Friday behind impressive offensive play and sturdy defense.

Returning NJCAA Division I second-team All-American and sophomore right-side hitter Kellen Dorotik compiled 29 kills across the two matches, while freshman outside hitter MaKenna Loo chipped in 25. Freshman setter Bromli Watson dished out 39 assists. 

On defense, freshman libero Sophie Ilagan recorded 30 digs. 

The Bucs have had considerable success in the Western Texas Tournament, improving to 13-1 in four appearances at the event under Gamble. Blinn will conclude the tournament with Temple College (9 a.m.) and Clarendon College (11 a.m.) on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
