Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Midland uses big second half to pull away from Blinn at Wrangler Shootout

The Buccaneers defeated New Mexico Military Institute on Thursday to open the Shootout

The Blinn College men's basketball team moved to 1-1 at the Wrangler Shootout following an 83-65 loss to Midland College on Friday in Odessa, Texas.

The Buccaneers are now 4-3 overall.

Blinn will wrap up the Shootout with a matchup against ninth-ranked Odessa College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Bucs played the Chaparrals close for most of the first half, but Midland fought to a 44-34 lead at the break.

The Chaps then scored the first six points of the second half to go up 16 and put Blinn on its heels.

"It was a hard-fought game in the first half, and we competed well," Bucs head coach Scott Schumacher said. "Then Midland scored six straight to open the second half and it was an uphill battle from there. They made some shots, we missed some shots, and that was the story of the second half."

Sophomore forward Anthony Isaac had a solid game for Blinn, tallying 19 points with eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Reese Miller tacked on 10 points and freshman guard Jakeel Registe added nine.

The Bucs opened the Shootout with a win over New Mexico Military Institute on Thursday, using a big second half to prevail 71-49.

Blinn led the Broncos just 28-27 at halftime before pulling away down the stretch.

Registe paced the Bucs with 17 points, followed by a pair of 10-point performances for Miller and sophomore forward London Maiden. Isaac registered six rebounds.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987.
