Boswell's three touchdowns highlight Blinn's rout of Community Christian

The Buccaneers are now 3-3 overall with three games remaining this season

The Blinn College football team made quick work of Community Christian College on Saturday and earned a 59-0 victory at Cub Stadium in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 3-3 overall.

"Today's game was an opportunity to iron out some kinks and to get some more of our guys some much-needed reps," Blinn head coach Ryan Mahon said. "We have three big conference games coming up and we're trying to make a run, and getting our guys further down the depth charter is huge because we'll need all hands on deck over that final stretch. This game was important for that reason alone."

The Bucs hosted the Crusaders on short notice after their previously scheduled opponent – John Melvin University – canceled midweek.

The sudden change of opponent did little to deter Blinn.

Freshman running back Martavious Boswell scored on a 14-yard run with 8:55 left in the first quarter, and the Bucs rolled from there.

Community Christian's subsequent offensive series was cut short when Blinn freshman defensive back Marquis Cross picked off a pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown.

Freshman kicker Cameron Noto nailed an 18-yard field goal to make it 17-0 with 3:35 remaining in the first quarter.

The Crusaders' ensuing series stalled deep in their own territory, and a punt attempt failed when the snap was bobbled. The ball ended up in the hands of freshman linebacker Samuel Taylor, who dragged two would-be tacklers with him into the end zone.

Noto's point-after kick made it 24-0 with 12:21 left in the second quarter.

"Our defense was unrelenting and just played really well," Mahon said.

Community Christian ended its next possession with a punt, and the Bucs found the end zone again when Boswell scored his second TD of the day on a 5-yard scamper.

A 20-yard scoring pass from freshman quarterback John Seibert to freshman wide receiver Tracy James Jr. pushed the lead to 38-0; and freshman QB Duriell Quinn entered the game and quickly made his mark with a 30-yard strike to freshman wideout Rae'G Dailey to make it 45-0 with 4:07 left in the half.

In the third quarter, Boswell earned himself a hat trick when he scored on a 30-yard burst with 7:13 to go.

Quinn hit freshman receiver Cedric Nash for an 11-yard TD to cap the scoring.

Up next for Blinn is a Southwest Junior College Football Conference home tilt against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Cub Stadium.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
