Buccaneers blow past TWA College for dominant home win

Blinn improved to 2-1 overall ahead of a conference tilt against New Mexico Military Institute

The Blinn College football team stormed to a dominant 89-6 victory over Transformation With Athletics College on Friday at Cub Stadium in Brenham, Texas.

The win pushed the Buccaneers to 2-1 overall this season.

A game that was otherwise a one-sided affair started with a bit of turbulence as TWA began the night by turning the first offensive play of the game – a Blinn pass attempt – into a defensive touchdown.

The interception TD was all the Battlecats would muster, however, as the Bucs answered with 28 points in the opening quarter and never looked back.

"We started slowly and that's something we have to get corrected," Blinn head coach Ryan Mahon said. "But we got settled in and got done what we needed to get done. We executed really well offensively, and on defense we were lights out."

Mahon was able to empty his bench as Blinn's reserves saw a large chunk of playing time.

The Bucs took a 65-6 lead into halftime.

"Overall, a lot of our kids got in the game, and we showed improvement, and we have to continue that trajectory throughout the year," Mahon added.

Blinn tallied all of the points it needed behind the arm of freshman quarterback Khalib Johnson and got a bit more from freshman running back Antonio Martin.

He rallied the Bucs out of their brief 6-0 deficit when he hit freshman wide receiver Ethan Wyatt over the middle for a 44-yard touchdown. The point-after attempt was good and made it 7-6 with 13:01 left in the first period.

Johnson and Wyatt connected again, this time from 47 yards out, as Blinn's lead grew to 14-6 with 7:56 to go in the first. Sophomore wide receiver Brooks Rigney hauled in a 58-yard TD pass from Johnson at the 6:06 mark. Martin added a 15-yard scoring run with 2:06 to go in the quarter.

The Bucs tacked on 37 points in the second quarter and 24 after the break.

Up next, Blinn hosts 10th-ranked New Mexico Military Institute (2-1) for a Southwest Junior College Football Conference clash at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Brenham.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.?
