No. 7 Buccaneers remain unbeaten with two wins at Western Texas Fall Classic

Blinn finishes play at the WTC Fall Classic with two matches Saturday

The seventh-ranked Blinn College volleyball team remained undefeated with a pair of sweeps on day 1 of the Western Texas Fall Classic on Friday at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas.

The Buccaneers (6-0) defeated Dallas College-Cedar Valley and Midland College in three sets apiece, giving them five sweeps on the season.

In Friday's opener, Blinn topped Cedar Valley 25-15, 25-15, 25-15.

Sophomore hitter Kierslynn Wright loaded the stat sheet with nine kills, nine digs and four service aces, while freshman hitter LaNeah Lara paced the Bucs with 12 kills. Don'Yah Cosie added eight kills.

Freshmen setters Kelsi Wingo and Darby Nash distributed 17 and 12 assists, respectively.

Sophomore libero Ellie Turned provided a defensive spark with a team-best 14 digs.

"I thought we ran the middle well but struggled with our serve receive," Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said. "Kelsi did a good job running our offense today and I thought the middles did a nice job transitioning.

"LaNeah played good on the outside and our defense played hard."

The Bucs finished their day with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 win over Midland.

Offensively, Lara and Wright put forth solid performances with 14 and 12 kills apiece. Cosie chipped in five kills. Wingo dished out 34 assists.

On defense, Turner led Blinn with 21 digs, Wright capped another big game with 19, and freshman libero Emily Hardee had 10.

The Bucs finish play at the WTC Fall Classic on Saturday with an 11 a.m. tilt against Western Texas, followed by a bout against Dallas College-Mountain View at 1 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
