Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Blinn ends season in Gulf South District semis as No. 6 Tyler prevails

The Buccaneers finished the fall with a program-record 13 wins and their first-ever playoff victory

The Blinn College men's soccer team's historic season came to an end Saturday as the Buccaneers fell to sixth-ranked Tyler Junior College in the semifinal round of the Gulf South District Tournament in Tyler, Texas.

The top-seeded Apaches earned a 5-0 victory over Blinn.

Saturday's playoff match was the third meeting of the season between the third-seeded Bucs and the top-seeded Apaches.

"We were beaten by a well-disciplined team," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "The better team won today."

The Bucs' season comes to a close at 13-7-2 and ends after Blinn set several individual single-season and career records throughout the fall, including a single-season mark for total wins. The Bucs also qualified for the postseason for the fifth time since the program launched in 2018 and earned their first playoff win (1-0 over Jacksonville College in overtime) in the tournament quarterfinals round.

Blinn was just unable to keep the magic going against the high-powered Apaches.

Tyler scored two goals just 14 seconds apart in the 22nd minute and went on to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

The Apaches controlled the match offensively with a 29-4 shot advantage.

Though Blinn sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Pena allowed five goals, he also made an impressive 15 saves for the Bucs to increase his program single-season and career saves records.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
