Gary Belt begins his third season coaching men’s and women’s golf at Blinn College.
Belt arrives at Blinn with more than 20 years experience coaching both men’s and women’s golf.
Prior to Blinn, Belt spent 13 seasons as the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Division II Lubbock Christian University (2011-2023).
During his time at Lubbock Christian, Belt helped transform the Chaparrals and Lady Chaps into a competitive force on the course and in the classroom. In 2012, the Chaps narrowly missed making their first trip to the National Championship, finishing fourth in the competitive Sooner Athletic Conference and finished the season ranked 15th. Under Belt’s direction, Niel DuPreez earned NAIA All-American honors in 2013 and Heartland All-Conference honors in 2014. Belt’s team finished the 2013-2014 season with a historic high 3.38 GPA.
Before joining Lubbock Christian, Belt coached the men’s and women’s golf teams at Northwood University for 11 years, experiencing solid success in the NAIA. He led the women’s team to three Red River Conference titles and eight National Championship appearances, finishing as high as ninth in 2006.
The men’s teams made five National Championship appearances during his tenure. Belt coached four NAIA All-Americans, 12 NAIA Scholar All-Americans and earned two RRAC Coach of the Year honors. He was the president of the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Golf Coaches Association and served as the RRAC Golf Chairman from 2008-2010.
Belt also serves as a Senior Associate Athletics Director at LCU where he has assisted with LCU’s transition into NCAA DII and other administrative tasks.
A native of Mesquite, Texas, Belt holds a Bachelor of Arts of Business Administration and a Master of Business degree from Amberton University in Garland. He and his wife, Becky, have three sons and three grandsons.
