Anthony Maxwell enters his third season as a member of the Blinn men's basketball coaching staff.
Maxwell brings with him seven years of coaching experience, with his most recent stop being Eastern Oklahoma State College, where he served as an assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.
While at Eastern Oklahoma State, Maxwell played a large roll in player development, recruiting, and managing the team's zone defense. Maxwell helped develop an All-Region 2 point guard in Arzhonte Dallas. He was also responsible for recruiting two Top-30 Oklahoma high school players. Maxwell’s zone defense while at Eastern Oklahoma was ranked in the 93rd percentile, only allowing 0.640 points per possession via Synergy compared to other zone defenses across the country.
As a graduate assistant at Detroit Mercy, Maxwell worked closely with Antoine Davis in his daily training regimen. Maxwell also had responsibilities in daily operations, assisting and directing summer workouts, managing the transfer portal, and creating each opponent’s player personnel film. During Maxwell’s time at Detroit Mercy, he helped the Titans earn their first winning record since the 2015-16 season as the team reached The Basketball Classic postseason tournament in 2021-22.
Prior to his time in Detroit, Maxwell spent one year as the director of basketball operations at the University of Tennessee at Martin. While at UT-Martin, he also directed on-campus visits, academic success, and community involvement.
From 2016-18, Maxwell was an assistant coach with the University of Texas-Permian Basin, helping the program record a pair of 26-win seasons while leading the nation in rebounding margin during the 2016-17 campaign. The Falcons also saw their first two NCAA appearances in school history and a run to the Sweet 16 in 2017-18.
Maxwell played college basketball at Centralia College before transferring to Central Washington University, where he finished his career. He was also a student assistant coach for Centralia College and helped that team to a 21-10 campaign in 2012-13, marking its best record since 1985.
A native of Spanaway, Washington, Maxwell graduated from Central Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2016, while acquiring his master’s in criminal justice, with an emphasis in intelligence analysis from Detroit Mercy in 2022.
