Blinn Football Program History

The Blinn College football program is one of the most successful teams in NJCAA history, with four national championships (1995, 1996, 2006, and 2009), countless NCAA Division I placements, more than 60 current and former NFL players, more than 100 NJCAA All-America selections, and 11 inductions into the NJCAA Hall of Fame. 

Since 1964, Blinn has amassed an overall record of 322-249-11 with 14 bowl appearances. 

NJCAA Hall of Fame inductees include players Lyle Blackwood (1995), Steve Beaird and James Wright (1996), Eddie Cox and Shane Nelson (1997), Floyd Hogan and Darnell Meyers (1998), Floyd Randle and Dr. Richard Garza (2001), Cam Newton (2019), Michael Bishop (2022); coaches Leroy Dreyer (1997) Ben Boehnke (1998), and Willie Fritz (2003), and the 1972 team (2002). 

Notable alumni include quarterback Cam Newton, a former NJCAA All-American, NCAA Heisman Award Winner, and NFL MVP; quarterback Michael Bishop, a former Kansas State University Wildcat, NCAA Heisman Award runner-up, and NFL quarterback; wide receiver Dee Dee Westbrook, an NJCAA All-American, NCAA Biletnikoff Award winner, and former NFL wide receiver; wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson, a member of the Iowa State University Cyclones who earned three All-Big 12 first-team honors, a first-team NCAA All-America selection, and set program records in receptions in a single season and career while finishing as a Biletnikoff Award runner-up. 

Current Buccaneers in the NFL include wide receivers Xavier Hutchinson and Danny Gray, and cornerback Kendall Sheffield.  

The Buccaneers compete in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference and play their home games at Cub Stadium in Brenham, Texas.
