The fourth-ranked Blinn College women's golf team is headed back to the national tournament.

The Buccaneers placed second at the five-team NJCAA Central District Tournament on Monday to secure their third consecutive berth in the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship.

No. 13 Redlands Community College claimed the district title at 65-over par, while Blinn finished at 70-over. Freshman Ava Murcer paced the Buccaneers with a runner-up finish at 6-over.

The event also served as the Region 14 Championship for Blinn and No. 14 Tyler Junior College. The Buccaneers outpaced the Apaches by 33 strokes to earn back-to-back region titles.

"We're the region champions, which is great for our players and our program; we just fell short on the district side," Blinn assistant coach Gary Belt said. "We didn't play to our standard this week, but our girls' mindset remains the same. They're focused on the next tournament — nationals — and they believe in their ability to win it."

Sophomore Daniah Syed finished fourth at 15-over, and freshman Arianna Rodriguez tied for fifth at 20-over in the 27-player field.

Murcer, Syed, and Rodriguez each earned all-district and all-region honors.

Blinn now turns its attention to the national tournament, scheduled for May 11-14 at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Ill.

Last season, the Buccaneers recorded the best national tournament finish in program history, placing fifth in their third appearance.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
