Blinn Call of Duty keeps late-season surge going with two NJCAAe victories

The Buccaneers have won four consecutive Call of Duty matches

The Blinn College esports team swept two Call of Duty matches Tuesday.

The Buccaneers blanked Brookdale Community College and Laramie County Community College 3-0 in a pair of best-of-five NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) series.

The team of Jaden Navarro, Aariz Ali, Karsyn Krchnak, and Jordan Vo competed for Blinn and improved to 6-2 in NJCAAe play. The Bucs have won four consecutive NJCAAe contests.

The matchups pitted the four Bucs against the Jersey Blues and the Golden Eagles, with the teams attempting to collect three wins across three modes of play in the first-person-shooter game:
  • Hardpoint: Teams secure rotating capture points, earning points for control. A team wins by reaching 250 points first.
  • Search and Destroy: Teams alternate attacking and defending, with the goal to plant or defuse an objective. The first team to win 6 rounds claims victory.
  • Control: Teams attack and defend two capture points, with limited lives adding an elimination aspect. The first team to win three rounds claims victory.
In their opener against Brookdale, the Bucs prevailed 250-113 in the Hardpoint round; 6-1 in Search and Destroy, and 3-1 in Control.

Blinn carried that momentum into its sweep of Laramie County, earning a 250-44 win in Harpoint, a 6-1 victory in Search and Destroy, and a 3-0 shutout in Control.

"I'm happy we were able to take care of business against two teams we needed to beat," Bucs assistant coach and Call of Duty coach Ryan Lucich said. "We have one more game against Central Community College which will hopefully clinch the third seed for us in the NJCAAe playoffs. We are working hard to get into playoff form as well look to challenge Keyano and USC-Sumter in the upcoming playoff bracket."

Blinn concludes its NJCAAe regular season with a tilt against Central at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6.

The Bucs' Overwatch team will be in action when it faces Hawkeye Community College in NJCAAe play at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
