No. 19 Buccaneers conclude Midland Tournament undefeated

MIDLAND, Texas — The No. 19 Blinn College volleyball team (3-0) went undefeated in the Midland Tournament after sweeping Cedar Valley College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-6, 25-14), on Saturday morning.

The sweep allowed Blinn to finish the tournament with a 3-0 record to open the season.

"I thought the team played really well and this was a really good start to our season," said Terry Gamble, Blinn head coach. "I am really happy with how our middles and ball control players played. Overall I am extremely happy with our performance this weekend."

Freshmen Essence Clerkley and Giulia Hortelan, and sophomore Taylor Henderson led Blinn's offense with eight kills apiece, while Jenni Liu recorded 29 assists. Liu and Hortelan also chipped in with two aces each.

On defense, Hortelan led with 11 digs, while Paige Havel recorded three block assists.

Next, the Buccaneers will travel to face Wharton County Junior College on Tuesday, August 27, at 6 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
